 Dear Parents,

We just had an awesome field trip to the End of the Oregon Trail Museum and the Museum of the Oregon Territory!  The reason we went on this trip so early was to take advantage of the free narrated historical tour given on the Oregon City Trolley.  The trolley only runs during the summer months, and the last day to ride is September 1.  Since we were in Oregon City to ride the trolley, it was a good time to visit the museums as well.  Ask your student what he/she has learned about Oregon so far this year!

Already this year we’ve learned two memory verses in Bible.  We’ve completed our first lesson in spelling and taken our first test.  We are studying place value and benchmarks in math.  We are enjoying a condensed version of Anne of Green Gables, and learning about the amazing life of George Washington Carver.  This will tie in nicely with our plants unit in science.  Oh, and ask your student what it is like to paint like an elephant!

Don’t forget that our Back to School Night is this coming Thursday from 6:45 p.m. to 8:05 p.m.  It is very important that you attend this program so you can learn what is expected of you child this year.  An 8th grade Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser will be available before the program.

Reading Log #2 and Math Facts #2 are due on Tuesday, September 2.  Students are to do 100 minutes of “at home” reading a week.  They must have a parent signature on their reading log to have it count.  Students are also to do a page of math facts each week.  Both of these sheets have been given to your student.  Please help them remember to turn them in on Tuesday. (Normally, these would be due on Monday.)  Thank you!

I hope you have a restful Labor Day!

 Sincerely,
